We get into a small bus not exactly knowing where we are about to go, but we asked the bus driver if he could drive us to the hot springs and he said yes. As you leave the edge of the city of Pucón, clearing the small buildings all you can see is open land. The farmland and countryside are very flat but this flat land quickly turns into enormous mountains. It is as if someone dropped giant rocks out of the sky. It is surreal and hard to imagine without really being there, well so are most things. We drive further into the countryside and begin to get further and further into the mountains seeing even larger cliffs and volcanoes in the distance covered by snow. We pass tons of farmland with cows, goats, llamas, chickens and horses. Once we think we definitely lost, the bus stops and we are there. We don´t really know what to expect because there isn´t really a gate or anything. So we pay this woman who barely had change walk down a bit and finally get to a cliff where we can see everything. It looked like something out of a Asian monastery, untouched and holy. The pools of hot water are next to a strong flowing river and you can see the steam coming off of them. We walk down the cliffs to the bottom on the way passing giant boulders covered in the greenest of mosses. We get down and check out the whole area going next to the river, unable to hear anything because its so loud. We get changed and jump in and it is just like a hot tub but all natural. It is hot too. The water is hotter closer to the rocks on the sides. We end up relaxing all day in the hot springs and it felt great. The entire time I am wondering if this is still real. Was quite the day.
We had a pretty standard July 4th after that, bought lots of beer and played drinking games. Then went to the discotecta Bozz. Was fun.
It has been raining in Pucón for the last 5 days and the sun just came out so I think I am going to go for a run. Stay sweet.
Sameness is plainness.
